ALOHA
What is The Loving Purple Light?
The Loving Purple Light (LPL) is a Hawai'i-based organization founded by Denise C. Drake and dedicated to the promotion of well-being throughout the community. We are a program of the Pacific American Foundation, a 501(c)(3).
The Loving Purple Light is a guided relaxation practice designed to promote calm and focus for teachers and children in the classroom. The LPL relaxation practice was developed into a 32-page picture book by Denise C. Drake and illustrated by Francesco Orrazzini.
Our Mission
The Loving Purple Light supports core human values including empathy, integrity, compassion, neutrality, acceptance, forgiveness, positivity, and loving. LPL provides the experience of inner focus to find peace, calm, and loving, counteract anxiety and societal challenges, and encourage connection to each other and the broader world.

The Loving Purple Light is an expression of Aloha.

ALO-HA is the Hawaiian word for love, compassion, peace, mercy and kindness, rooted deeply in the breath of life and the spirit of connection. It goes beyond a simple greeting to embody a way of living that honors love as a natural, positive energy shared between people and the land. The word itself combines "alo," meaning to share, and "ha," meaning breath or life force, reminding us that love flows through presence and mutual care.

What People Are Saying

Veronica West
4th Grade Teacher, Keolu Elementary
"I wanted to share with you that today our class was all over the place and I was feeling so overstimulated. After they came back from lunch, we did The Loving Purple Light (to their great excitement) and it was like we started a new day."
Shari Wladis
Education Consultant & Book Reviewer
"The Loving Purple Light gives such a break without requiring the teacher to remember the steps of a relaxation technique. A teacher can just pick up the book and read it calmly. How much time is used can range from a moment to longer once the guiding to a quiet place is complete."
Nano Chatfield
Founder, The Girls Foundation of Tanzania
"Although I had read the book on my own before our class [in an after school program in Tanzania], I didn't anticipate how powerful our focus would be, how a deep quiet enveloped us and a profound gentleness and sense of togetherness."
